Injectables Aftercare
Bruising is common with any procedure in which the skin is pierced with a needle. Many will not experience any bruising at all, while others will be more prone to it.
Typically, most bruising will resolve within 10-14 days.
To decrease your risk of bruising you may do the following prior to your appointment:
- Stop alcohol consumption 48-72 hours prior to your appointment
- If cleared by your doctor, avoid blood-thinning medications such as Aspirin.
- Start taking Arnica Montana pills (available over the counter without a prescription) at least 5-7 days prior to your appointment.
- Start taking Arnica Montana pills (available over the counter without a prescription) at least 5-7 days prior to your appointment.
After Injections:
It’s best to treat the areas treated like you would a wound, let it breathe, don’t play with it, don’t put anything on it that might irritate the skin, be gentle and wait for it to heal.
- Do not massage or manipulate the areas treated for a minimum of 48 hours after injections. You may risk moving the product and will increase swelling.
- You may apply a lip balm starting 12 hours after your appointment (be gentle when applying).
- If bruising is noted, apply topical Arnica Montana (may be purchased over the counter without a prescription) to the treated areas starting 12 hours after your appointment.
- Refrain from vigorous exercise for 48 hours post-treatment. This can exacerbate bruising by driving blood to the area and increase swelling.
- Avoid saunas or hot tubs for 48 hours post-treatment.
- For swelling and any tenderness, you may take Tylenol 1000mg, Ibuprofen 400mg, Pepcid (Famotidine) 20mg tablet and Zyrtec (Cetirizine HCl) 10mg tablet together. These can be purchased over the counter without a prescription.
- For lip filler, avoid smoking, vaping or using a straw for 48 hours after your appointment.
- Apply ice or cold packs to the areas treated. Don’t apply ice directly to the skin or tissue. Ice for 10 minutes on and 30 minutes off as needed.
If any of the following occur after injections please contact the office immediately
- Sharp pain.
- Skin discoloration (turning white/blueish in color).
- Poor capillary refill. How to check capillary refill: Apply pressure to the area for 5 seconds and then release. Determine how long it takes for the pink color to return. If more than 5 seconds, this is an indication of poor capillary refill. Contact the office.
- Be prepared to send videos or photos (in good lighting) to your provider for evaluation.
- Extreme swelling that is causing you pain and is not decreasing with the interventions recommended above.
